The Vice-President of the European Commission, Vera Yurova, strongly reacted to the statements of the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, who brazenly lies about Ukraine.

Yurova publicly challenged Fico

The vice-chairman of the European Commission noted that anyone who tries to weaken aid to Ukraine, even with the help of statements, "is essentially helping the Kremlin."

Anyone who spreads Russian propaganda, for example, saying that the Ukrainians started the war, is betraying their allies in the European Union... We all want peace. But we do not wish for peace that would mean the capitulation of Ukraine. We are not that weak.

As the European politician admits, she expected a stronger reaction from her colleagues in the EU after Robert Fico's scandalous statements.

However, only the Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, embarrassed Putin's henchman.

Vera Yurova also drew attention to the fact that this is not the area of competence of the European Commission.

Our basic rules, which are basic treaties, did not provide for this type of betrayal of the fundamental interests of the European Union and European citizens, — stressed the vice-chairman of the European Commission.

What Fico said about Ukraine and the war

On Feb. 24, 2022, Robert Fico began to cynically lie that the war began in 2014 "with the rampage of Ukrainian neo-Nazis."

Putin's henchman added that the military invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation is also to "mislead Russia that NATO will not expand further to the east."

In addition, he claimed that the West's strategy for the conflict is not working, that Slavs are dying in the war, and the West is watching this without having a peace plan from the European Union.

The US is pushing Ukraine to make territorial concessions to Russia

Trump's team does not believe in the possibility of complete de-occupation of Ukraine
Source:  The New York Times

US State Department Secretary Marco Rubio claims that any agreement to end the war will require territorial concessions from Ukraine and difficult decisions from Russia, but he did not specify what exactly this is about.

Points of attention

  • Despite reluctance to reveal specifics, Marco Rubio underscores the necessity for both Ukraine and Russia to make tough decisions to halt the conflict or reach a temporary resolution.
  • The notion that neither Ukraine nor Russia can achieve a decisive victory on the battlefield adds more weight to the importance of diplomatic negotiations and compromises to address the ongoing conflict.

According to the head of American diplomacy, Kyiv and Moscow must be prepared to make difficult decisions to end the war.

Marco Rubio made this statement during a flight to Saudi Arabia, where he is scheduled to hold talks with the Ukrainian delegation.

The most important thing we will leave here with is a strong sense that Ukraine is willing to do difficult things, just as the Russians will have to do difficult things, to end this "conflict" or at least to suspend it in some way.

Despite this, the American diplomat did not want to reveal the details of the potential peace treaty. He continues to assure that neither country will be able to win on the battlefield.

According to Rubio, the Russian army does not have the strength to conquer all of Ukraine, and the Armed Forces of Ukraine will allegedly not be able to liberate all of the territory occupied by the enemy in the next few years.
