Hungary called to stop the supply of military aid to Ukraine at the OSCE meeting

Péter Szijjártó

During his speech at the OSCE ministerial meeting in Skopje, the head of the Hungarian MFA, Peter Szijarto, assured that the supply of weapons to Ukraine would not lead to peace and that he wanted to preserve the lives of the Hungarian minority.

The Hungarian minister in the OSCE called for an end to aid to Ukraine with weapons "so that Hungarians don't die"

We did not think even in our wildest dreams that there would be a war in Europe. And it happened, and we are neighbors of this war, said Siyarto, who did not join the boycott of the ministerial meeting due to the participation of the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

He complained that the war had led to an increase in energy prices. "We are paying the price of this war in the form of inflation, which has increased 10-15 times. We feel this war, even though it is not our war," said the Hungarian minister.

He repeated Budapest's official position: that the supply of weapons to Kyiv "does not help to achieve peace, but only leads to new victims."

Those who say there is a battlefield solution are wrong. And those who say that development on the battlefield will increase the chances of peace are wrong. It's getting worse every day, Szijarto said, mentioning in this context that members of the Hungarian minority are dying on the battlefield.

"We don't want more Hungarians to die, but in general, we don't want more people to die," he added.

Siyarto expressed regret that there are no direct contacts between Ukraine and Russia, in particular, within the framework of the OSCE.

It is a pity to see that direct communication between Ukraine and Russia did not take place at this forum either, he said.

Sijarto expressed his conviction that the world should not be divided into blocs, but global cooperation should exist.

We will remind you that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was invited to this year's meeting of foreign ministers of the OSCE member states. Because of this, the ministers of foreign affairs of Ukraine, Poland and the Baltic states publicly announced a boycott of the meeting.

Nord Stream revival. Germany demands Merz intervene

German authorities are outraged by joint plans between the US and Russia
Source:  NTV

In Germany, the Green Party is calling on the future Chancellor of Germany and leader of the conservative CDU, Friedrich Merz, to respond promptly to the US-Russia talks on the revival of Russian gas pipelines.

Points of attention

  • The involvement of Putin's German friend Matthias Warnig in lobbying for Nord Stream 2 restart raises concerns about the project's motives and implications.
  • The situation underscores the importance of analyzing the geopolitical consequences of energy projects like Nord Stream and their impact on European security and economic interests.

German authorities are outraged by joint plans between the US and Russia

Recently, the scandalous Russian diplomat Sergei Lavrov officially confirmed that the Kremlin and the White House are holding negotiations on Nord Stream.

The leader of the Green Party, Franziska Brantner, reacted to this statement.

If Lavrov is now saying that the US and Russia are negotiating the commissioning of Nord Stream 2, the future Chancellor must make it clear that this is not in the interests of either Germany or Europe, the German politician emphasized.

Against this background, she mentioned the defense and infrastructure package adopted last week.

According to Brantner, she and her party colleagues did not vote for billions spent on German defense capabilities so that the future federal government could “fill the Russian military coffers with gas money again.”

By the way, it recently became known that Putin's German friend Matthias Warnig, since his days working in the Stasi secret police, has been lobbying in the US for the restart of Nord Stream 2.

Yale professors Snyder, Shore, and Stanley resign over Trump policies

Snyder, Stanley, and Shore leave Yale
Source:  online.ua

Three prominent critics of US President Donald Trump are leaving Yale University: history professors Timothy Snyder and Marcy Shore, and philosophy professor Jason Stanley. The decisions come amid the new administration's attacks on higher education in the United States.

Points of attention

  • Jason Stanley's forced resignation sheds light on the challenges faced by academics in an environment of political hostility, exemplified by attacks on institutions like Columbia University.
  • The move of Snyder, Stanley, and Shore to the University of Toronto and Munk School reflects the changing landscape for academics seeking a more conducive environment for their work and values.

Snyder, Stanley, and Shore leave Yale

As the Yale Daily News notes, the professors are not only leaving the university — they have decided to leave the States altogether while Donald Trump and his team remain in power here.

According to the latest reports, Snyder, Stanley and Shore will move to positions at the University of Toronto and will teach at the Munk School.

Jason Stanley said he was forced to resign because of the political climate in the United States. He was also struck by how Columbia University was suffering from attacks from the White House.

What is important to understand is that Donald Trump's team threatened to deport two students who participated in protests at Columbia University and withdrew $400 million allocated to fund research at the university.

Against the backdrop of such powerful pressure, the university was forced to agree to a number of demands from the Trump administration, including a review of its policy.

Marcy Shore officially confirmed that Munk's school had long been trying to recruit her and Snyder and that the couple had been seriously considering offers "for the past two years."

Recall that Timothy Snyder is a UNITED24 ambassador — he has publicly supported the Ukrainian people many times against the backdrop of the war waged by Russia.
