Russian special services are preparing a large-scale media operation to discredit the work of the State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine (SBI).

Russian special services are preparing a large-scale media operation to discredit the SBI work

Members of a Russian criminal organisation, suspected of treason, are preparing a large-scale special information discrediting operation against the SBI. At the request of Russia's special services, they plan to spread fakes about the course of the pre-trial investigation against them, talk about alleged political persecution, etc., the SBI's statement said.

Reports say that through dubious sources in the media, it is planned to disseminate false and "distorted" information to affect the facts and evidence obtained by the investigation.

In November this year, the SBI and the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) exposed this criminal organisation. It included current and former MPs, an assistant to one of them, and a former prosecutor.

It was established that, on the instructions of the Russian special services, they organised measures to discredit Ukraine's image in the international arena to deteriorate diplomatic relations with the United States and complicate Ukraine's accession to the European Union and NATO.

A current MP, who had been conducting information and subversive activities in favour of Russia, was suspected of high treason and participation in a criminal organisation. His parliamentary colleague, who is currently deprived of his mandate, was also served with a notice of suspicion.

In addition, a former prosecutor and two active officers of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (formerly the Main Intelligence Directorate which is still commonly known by its previous abbreviation GRU) were served with a notice of suspicion.

According to the decision of the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv, the suspect Ukrainian MP has imposed a preventive measure in the form of detention without bail. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

We urge you to trust only official sources of information, carefully check the facts and be sure to contact the state authorities," the SBI stressed.

Secret attack on the Crimean bridge — unexpected details published

What is known about the secret attack on the Crimean bridge?
Source:  The New York Times

According to the latest edition of The New York Times, in the summer of 2024, Ukraine secretly carried out a third attack on the Crimean bridge, but it was unsuccessful. It is indicated that the strike took place within the framework of secret military cooperation between Kyiv and Washington.

Points of attention

  • The planning and execution of the attack reveal the complexities and risks involved in covert military operations in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
  • The revelation of this unsuccessful strike sheds light on the evolving dynamics of the conflict in Crimea and the strategic maneuvers adopted by the involved parties.

What is known about the secret attack on the Crimean bridge?

As journalists managed to find out, in the summer of 2024, Ukraine damaged the Crimean bridge with long-range ATACMS missiles.

According to their data, this secret operation was carried out as part of the Lunar Hail campaign, which was jointly developed by Ukraine and the United States.

This operation involved strikes on Russian infrastructure in occupied Crimea.

Initially, Washington did not allow Ukraine to attack the Crimean bridge with American missiles, but later agreed.

The ATACMS was planned to hit vulnerable areas of the bridge, and the naval drones would explode near the bridge piers, but the Russians strengthened the protection of the piers. After that, the Ukrainian military proposed to attack only with ATACMS missiles. American officials objected, arguing that the missiles would not give a reliable result, so it was necessary to either wait or abandon the strike.

However, when the attack did take place, the planned strike caused minimal damage to the facility.

The White House
Trump wants everyone to know the results of the investigation

White House President Donald Trump has urgently instructed the Federal Bureau of Investigation to declassify the materials of the "Crossfire Hurricane" case. What is important to understand is that this concerns possible ties between his campaign and Russia in 2016.

Points of attention

  • The 'Crossfire Hurricane' investigation involved covert surveillance of Trump's campaign headquarters in 2016, sparking controversy and suspicions of Russian ties.
  • The urgent declassification directive by President Trump stirs debates and curiosity surrounding the findings and implications of the investigation into his campaign's alleged connections with Russia.

Trump wants everyone to know the results of the investigation

According to the White House press service, the American leader ordered the "immediate" declassification of materials related to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's investigation into "Crossfire Hurricane."

It started 9 years ago and was aimed at finding out whether members of Trump's campaign had ties to Russia during the presidential election.

Donald Trump's new executive order states that the investigation materials are no longer classified.

However, there are also exceptions — these are materials redacted by the FBI or those that require protection under court decisions or laws.

Subject to the exceptions noted above, the Attorney General shall promptly make the declassified materials described in this memorandum available to the public.
