Speaker Johnson says the issues of Ukraine aid and Mexican border to be divided

US House of Representatives

Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, told the three leaders of the parliaments of the Baltic countries that they intend to divide the issue of protecting the border with Mexico and related additional funding for Ukraine.

Border issues and aid to Ukraine can be divided

The Hill publication concerning its insiders reported this.

According to Mike Johnson, the decision will ultimately depend on the text of the border bill after negotiations in the Senate.

Speaker Raj Shah urged journalists not to take the meaning of these words earnestly and assured them that they were made in a hypothetical context.

So far, the media has not been able to determine whether the likely separation of this package will mean a separate vote in the House of Representatives on all items, including the issue of aid to Ukraine.

A separate vote on military aid to Kyiv could expose Johnson to criticism from radical lawmakers in his Republican Party, who oppose further aid to Ukraine.

Speaker Johnson commented on his connections with Donald Trump

According to the speaker of the US House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, his position on the agreement on protecting the border with Mexico — related to additional funding for Ukraine — is not intended to help Donald Trump win the election.

Our duty is to do right by the American people, to protect the people. The federal government's first and foremost job is to protect its citizens. This is not happening under President Biden, he said.

Nevertheless, Mike Johnson did not deny that he spoke with the former US president about the draft agreement and praised him for raising the issue of border protection "before anyone else."

He said this at a press conference after the summit in Paris.

Macron announced that a "Franco-British team" would be sent to Ukraine to "prepare the format of the Ukrainian army of tomorrow."

He added that work is ongoing on the potential deployment of so-called "deterrence forces" to Ukraine. These troops could potentially act as a "deterrent" in the event of a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.

Macron noted that these could be forces from "some EU member states" who would be stationed in "certain strategic locations" in Ukraine.

The French President hopes that there will be support for such actions from the United States, but wants to prepare an alternative scenario without Washington's participation.

The French leader also stated: the foreign ministers of the coalition states have 3 weeks to prepare proposals for monitoring compliance with the ceasefire in Ukraine.

It was previously reported that France allows the deployment of European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine at a distance from the front line, one of the options being deployment along the Dnieper line.

  • The US expresses hopes for Greenland's independence and emphasizes the need for Denmark to increase investment in the region.

Vance blamed Denmark for Greenland's troubles

The American vice president accused Copenhagen of insufficient investment in Greenland's security.

Our message to Denmark is very simple: you have not done a good job with the people of Greenland. You have not invested enough... This has to change.

He also emphasized that US allies are lagging behind in necessary military spending, while China and Russia are increasingly interested in Greenland.

And Denmark is not able to allocate the resources needed to maintain this base, to maintain our troops, and, in my opinion, to protect the people of Greenland from many very aggressive invasions by Russia, China, and other countries.

According to him, Washington believes that the island will choose independence from Denmark, and then the States "will negotiate with the people of Greenland".

"We don't think military force will ever be necessary... We think the people of Greenland are rational and good, we think we can come to an agreement," he added, emphasizing that the US could make the island much safer.
